So I was curious about these guys. I used to have one for 2 years and he never got bigger then 2 inches, but he died :(. Anyways the bf and I picked up 2 more but they are a different variant. I'd like to know what type of bumble bee they are, how big do they get? and what are possible tank mates? I ve had them for prob. around 8months-1 year. They are currently in a 55gal with a large cichlid. We planned to put them in a 180gal. We planned on keeping a few datnoides, maybe our breeding pair or jags, a Juranese catfish and a few redhooks, as those are some of the fish we currently own/trying to get. I figure they will eat what fits in their mouth but I was not sure if they would get along with other catfish or will they even eat eachother, as one is growing faster then the other?. If not would a 55gal be big enough for them when they are full grown or no? Anyways any info on them would be great.

Here is a few pictures of them: (excuse the the dirtyness in the one pic. I have not cleaned under his log yet - I lifted it up to get the pic.)

What you have there is a Pseudopimelodus bufonius or AKA Giant Bumble bee, Nice Pic up, you can actually sex these guys as well which always cool

Edit** Oops forgot to answer some of your questions aswell... They will get to around 8-10 inches so the 55 isn't the worst home for them although bigger is never a bad thing for ANY FISH... You wouldn't want to keep anything smaller in the same tank as they are (like almost all Cats) Predatory fish...you won't see much of them till the moon lights come on either but I'm sure you've figured that out already as well LOL

he is a very nice catfish... what kind of tank mates are good with this guy..? If i ever see one i would be interested.. :D

Okay which is pretty much what I figured but I wasnt sure how big they got and if those fish would work as they do get bigger then 8-10inches so it should work once everyone is grown out =]

They will prob end up in the 180gal. My main worry is having them with a juranese b/c I ve had my old tsnXmarble eat a juranses that was a few inches smaller and I dont want that happening again.

Anyways thanks for the ID =]

Liz- I the lfs here has tons of them so if you ever do spark an intrest and cant find one, let me know I am sure I can get one and have it shipped to you.

They won't take huge (similar sized) fish as they are limited to the size of their mouth.. but still big enough that I wouldn't trust them with anything much smaller than them

Seems like Basslover has answered everything you need. Only thing i will add is the first fish you had was likely to be Microglanis sp these are a small sp of South American bumblebee cat.:)

Yeah I second the South American bit. You prob had asians before, I read tat they used to be more common than the SAs. But anyhow I have one too and he kind of beat up on my farlowella but I think that was just because of how stationary the wella is.

Thank you for the help and information I appreciate it =]
