I just received a bumblebee catfish that is quite small on the advice of a lfs owner as a frequent buyer reward. (Also gave me a gorgeous orange molly male)

I read something that said they will eat guppies and other fish? Is this true? Do they grow to be up to 8"?

I currently have Ickabob in a 20 gallon with a couple of danios, 2 corys and pleco. Oh, there are 2 white clouds in there that can't be separated from the danios (tried to separate them, but they all act funny until they are reunited. They grew up together).

I intend to put all these guys in an aquarium along with some neon tetras...maybe gourmis such as dwarf? Not sure and have to research compatability.

If he will get agressive, is there an easy care for fish that I can set up in a 10 gallon with him? It will be him and compatible fish. OR, is it better to return him?

they can be confused with each other.
Also general rule of thumb: if the fish can fit in the cats mouth, don't expect it to be there in the morning.

sorry just saw that, they should stay under 4. and yeah unless you have very small fish, they should be allright. Just judge the mouth of the cat and the size of the fish accordingly.

post a pic it can be hard to tell the difference theres about 3 catfish from SA that are sold as SA bumblebee so you may need to post a pic

the most common one is the smallest they stay under 3'' thats most likely what you have they can be kept with fish bigger then them they aren't aggressive but are very preditory at night

Most of the BB cats are like that. I had one for 6 months and almost never saw it. They are all fairly slow growing and stay relitivly small. like you've been told this is a really confusing common name with several fish sharing it.

a pic may not do much any way the best way to tell is to wait like 6-7 months and if its still under 2'' its microglanis iheringi they are the most common and do hide all day there preditory but not aggressive they will eat small guppys and there fry but adults should be okay as long as the cats are we'll feed but if it fits in the cats mouth its getting eaten
