hey, I was wondering about bumblebee catfish and there aggression, I've heard they are peaceful, and that they are semi-aggressive. I was wondering how they'd be with cichlids like salvini, convicts and jacks. I love there color, i think they almost resemble tiny sharks, but i dont want em hiding all the time or gettin the snot kicked out of em either. does anyone know anything about them, I havent seen much written about them. i've seen a couple at an lfs for 4$ for about a 3". my largest fish in my 65g., is a pink con at about 4.5" and a male salvini at about the 4" mark. any info would be appreciated, thanx-salty

Thanx for the info i'll take that into consideration, I originally thought for not getting to big that they would'nt be a problem, but i've heard of them being kinda predatory to smaller fish. - salty

There are a couple types, as mentioned, they tend to hide I had one in a planted tank I saw maybe once a month. While not aggresive they can and do eat suprisingly large and fast fish. I never saw it catch one but I had a SA bumblebee (Pseudopimelodus raninis) that acquired a taste for giant danios (Danio malabaricus). It was eating one every second or third night. They were almost 4" long and the catfish was barely 5". I know that it was the culprit because I saw it with a bit of tail sticking out of it's mouth.

It was the pseudopimelodus, not the microglanis. Supposedly they can reach 8" but mine was the largest I have actually seen.
