i had a male and female bumblebee cichlid, about 6", he has always been interested in breeding, she was not. this has gone on for a long time, then came home and she was dead. why did she not want to breed? i have other pairs in the same tank, that have bred and fry have lived, any ideas?

125 gall, emp 400, fx5, powerheads, 79* weekly 25% water change. orange zebras, yellow labs, blue and albino scof, acei, johanni, kenyii, fish size from 3" to 7", oh yea lots of rock work creating hiding places 2-3" bed of very small gravel(2mm)

Do you have any other bumblebees? Since they are so aggressive it's usually best to have more females. Or the male will just pester the one which could cause her to not want to breed because she's stressed. Males are also known to kill females for not breeding.

yea it was just the pair, my pair of blue scofs bred, must have been luck, acei and zebras havent done anything tho, and they have the "right m/f ratio".

Bumblebees are more usually more aggressive than socolofis.
Also you never quite know when I male will just snap. I had 1 male and 3 female OB zebras. All was fine for months they breed many times. Then one day the male tried to kill one of the females. I removed her and healed her up. She was added again and it seemed ok at first. By that night he had killed her and was trying to kill another when I got home from work. I had to remove him and eventually got rid of the whole group.
