Hong Kong
Hi,

So the other day i was at the Hong Kong fish street and i saw a bb grouper in a store at about 5 inches. first one i've ever seen. It was being housed with a giant gourami. There was a price tag on the tage for $440 HK which is about $56US. I asked the store owner who was a cocky mutha ****er if it was only $440 and he was like (translated) "huh! 440 you wish its $660($85US) , its a salt water grouper thats been acclimated to freshwater". I was thinking he was so cocky i'll come back another day. Went back today and one was sold and the price was now $800HK ($100US). But it was at the bottom of the tank lying upside down and had lost almost al of his colour and it looked like it had velvet. What a effin waste of a fish. I saw a lot of people go into that shop and ask what it was and he was so god damn cocky he chased a lot of potential customers away. Anyways are either of the two prices $85US and $100US a good price for bumblebee groupers? Another thing is how fast and big do these grow. i remember them growing to obnoxious sizes...

great price... bit its dead

I've seen people here who have aquired these fish and place them in freshwater as jeuveniles.

But no one seems to answer the question of whether or not its a good idea.

I mean, is there anyone here that has had one for a while in a freshwater tank and can attest to them doing fine and thriving in them?

i would like to here your experience with them.

It is dead but hopefully he'll import some more. Really annoys me that he's such a prick. Infact most the good places where they have sweet monster fish they guys who work there are pricks. Except for one. I've bought 95% of my snakeheads off him. So he's a good guy.

I think r1 ridah has had one for quite awhile now... Maybe he can give us an update on how its doing...

The price is very good, the cheapest I have seen at 6" was $249 USD. They get to over 800 pounds in full salt water and lose that coloration as they grow. How fast do they grow, I do not know but from what I have read they seldom survive more than a year in FW.

awful price, your paying for a fish that will ultimately die. i duno bout hong kong, but its a "good" price for one in comparison to the US. we dont have them in UK yet
