I hope I put this in the right section.
What is this bump and what can I do to help it go away / get better / heal ? ?
She has had it a while, it has grown in the past week!

sorry the picture is a bit fuzzy. All of the pix turned that way and I usual get 1 good one.

Thanks a ton for your suggestions and advise.

It's a nodule (caused by a parasite? I forget.). They are harmless and many Oscars have them. They can be removed surgically but it's usually not worth the stress.

removed surgically.
Ha - I get the face lift before the O does ! !

it is not very pretty. looks like a big wart/zit/bump on the bottom of her mouth. I don't like bump spots on my critters! dang

knifegill mentioned it may possibly be a parasite.... any thoughts on that anybody???
if so I would like to treat her if possible!

Thanks for the info!!

I always thought it was because an Oscar will run up and down the glass with its chin and then that bump develops. My 8 year old Oscar got those all the time. They would tear off, then a new one would grow.

they seemed harmless though..

This is what I think causes them. My avatar, Zues, was a rescue from a small tank had one from rubbing the glass. Now he still has one cause he doesn't stop rubbing the glass when we are near his 150. The three other oscar in the tank don't have the calus because they don't rub the glass.

Yeah rubbing the glass or anything is the main reason.
its a while I'm looking for a way to get rid of this thing on my male oscar, he's got a big one since their last summer spawning, it really makes him look ugly.
I'm going to change his tank and am thinking in the midway to new tank I cut out this sh1t by a razor blade or something then use an antibiotic ointment on it! any idea about a freaking manual surgery? :screwy:

Id say thats the same as my o they dont have it when you buy em but they have after weeks of groveling for food!

Wow. You guys could be right about it being a callus. I've just read about it being a cyst-like parasitic nodule in books.
