I got a Petenia (Red Bay Snook) trio: two females 7" and a male 8"+. Male has developed a bump on its forehead about half inch in size. Bump is the same color as the fish and is little more reddish, like a human bruise. I can see blood vessels inside the bump and it's not symmetrical, it's more to the left of his forehead. All other fish in the tank is fine, no bumps or any signs of sickness.
First time I ever see something like that in my 3+ years in the hobby. Any ideas what it is and how to treat?

Please post water parameters ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, Ph, hardness if available and teperature.

Ammonia:0
Nitrite:0
Nitrate:20
ph:7.2
temp:84
hardness: ?
This morning I noticed a little white pimple on top of the bump.

I am not sure of what disease this is, but definitely not a nuchal hump. My male Petenia had one and it is a lot closer to the dorsal fin, almost touching.

Try treating with Minocycline (Maracyn 2). Ph of 7.2 is a little higher than I would like for this and Kanamycin would be a better choice if you can find it. Both are skin absorbed Kana a little more so and better at higher Ph. While 7.2 isn't too high for Minocycline it's effectivness will start to diminish if you go much higher than that. Either one of these can be used in the main tank as they are not hard on BB. Let me know how you make out.

Thank you very much Tom. I have this fish in a 210g tank so tons of medicine needed. I want to put him in a 10 gallon hospital and treat. Will buy Maracyn 2 today. I have Maracide and Coppersafe at home, I guess they will not help or will they?

Maracide and Coppersafe will not help with this. A hospital tank makes treatment much easier and cheaper.

Bought Maracyn 2 - it is tough to find locally for some reason, only one store out of four had it. 10g hospital cracked :( Thank God I had a spare plastic 5g bow front to replace with. Yesterday evening water was very dirty, brownish in color and bump reduced in half. I want to change 50-70% of the water today and continue treatment.

Let me know how it works out. Sometimes these mads are hard to find, I understand. I wish more stores carried Kanamycin.
