I just got these two babies in on saturday.

One of them had a bump on his head, seller told me that he bumped his head against the glass during feeding and it'll go away in a week or so.

Notice the swelling on his head.

Notice that the swelling had gone down considerably, but there are more scars on his head than before.

Is this normal progression as the swelling started to come down ?

Option 1:

My tank is infested with parasite, so should I treat the whole tank (240 gallon) with higher temp and salt ? if so, shoudl I use standard dosage ? 1 table spoon per 5 gallon ?

Option 2:

If this is not a parasite but just a simple open wound, should I move him to a smaller tank, and treat him with temp and salt ?

I am trying to handle the fish with as little care as possible. I like option 2 better, but if this is a parasite, then I may as well treat the whole tank.

Any opinion are greatly appreciated...

I dont know what it is but it wouldnt hurt to raise the temp to around 85-86 and add a tablespoon of salt/3 gallons of water. Dont add the salt all at once but over a 24 hour period. After a few days do a w/c to bring the ratio down to about 1tbls/5gallons and keep it there but still do lots and lots of water changes (adding more salt of course to keep it at 5/gallon). I have found that this works better then any meds that I have tried, plus it wont hurt your other fish.

That is a REALLY nice ST and I hope he turns out ok!

I am afraid that it is a bacteria infection and if so, I have to act quickly by using an appropriate antibiotics to cure it.

Do you think it is an infection ?

that happen to my ST a while back. doing every day water change for 25% and rais up the temp...i was gone a couple of week.

I agree; definately an infection I had a monster dat with the same thing on the head.. I just treated with salt and increase water temp; I also did several water changes to make sure water was prestine... I cured mine completely..

Where was this info when mine was posted with the same thing-----LOL-

Glad people are here to help ya out on this issue-I just lost a thin bar to it not so long agao---But much worse case--Mine had three of them bumps and ended up passing away....

I'm looking forward to watching this thread and seeing the outcome....

So you didn't use any meds ? just increases water temp and salt ?

thats a pretty small sizes ST. where did u get it from?

agreed, provide pristine water conditions, salt and monitor. in the meantime, in case something does go wrong, i would suggest contacting the seller now to see what he/she has to say since it is a pre-existing condition.

I used an antibiotic med; cant remember exactly which one; but I've done several doses and did not see any change; infact during treatment with the meds I noticed another bump forming; this is when I thought the meds were not helping..so I just stopped med treatment and just kept up with the water changes and and salt, as a last resort I put alot of salt and I bumped my temp to 90 the dat was big like 15" I dont know how a smaller dat would react to a temp of 90 but mine still looked okay in increase water aeration just in case but in a week I saw that the bump was getting better.. eventually it healed, left a dent on the dats head but at least the bump was gone...
