?
I just picked up a nice piece of wood that has a few spots where it has been burnt.

Does anyone know if these parts which are now like ash will leach black tannin or anything else into the water?

Burnt wood and wood ash are somewhere near 25% calcium carbonate and will Raise the pH of water it is kept in.
Tannin is mainly tannic acid and lowers pH, it comes from some barks, woods, and mainly acidic leaves like walnut.

Thanks mate...shouldn't be too much of a problem then.

The burnt spots aren't that big.

Partly burnt wood is just charcoal. Same stuff you can put in your filter. So a small amount wont have much effect on the tank.

Cheers

i was gonna say it would act as charcoal.

Scrub the loose stuff off with a metalic brush and you will be fine.
