I have had my bushynosed pleco for almost 2 months. he was a fantastic cleaner until a week ago. Last night i saw him lying on his back under a rock, unattached for some reason, breathing heavily. I looked him over and he wasn't bloated, no ick, no damage etc. Water is changed 40-50% every week.

I reached in to touch him and he moved around ok and re-attached to the rock. he then dissappeared into the tangle of wood in another part of the tank. it was almost like he was sleeping or something as he didn't move until I touched him

This is not normal behavior for him. he's bold and out with the lights on eating algae all the time. He has let the algae come back in the last week or so, aftare wiping it out in the first 3 days i had him

Tankmates are 7" female JD, 5-6" male GT, and a 4" male FM, 3" gold Nugget Pleco - 90 gallon

The Gold Nugget is now the one who's out and about, and IME they're more delicate regarding water params

Any ideas whats up with my Bushy nose?

well like you... if I think my fish are acting a bit strangely... I take it as a sign of things to come, and not good things at that. However they will push themselves into tight spaces, and they don't spend their lives attached to a surface.

I mean, they are good algae cleaners in some respects, but a 90 gallon is a lot, and if you are feeding it (like you should be) I wouldn't expect miracles from it.
Check your params and keep your eye on it, but it isn't much to go on ATM, just something to keep checking and looking out for.

OK well I hadn't seen this behavior from him before so was thinking it's sign or something. Since he cleaned the entire back wall of this tank + all the leaves on 2 anubias plants in the first 3 days I had him, I figured that when the algae came back he'd gotten sick.

I'll keep an eye on him and see what happens. he was doing it again tonight. Could post a vid I guess if you think it would help.

Thanks

My 4" BN plec does the same thing under a peice of driftwood. He only uses like, 1/3 of his mouth to keep him sucked on, the the other 2/3 is out in the open. It is beyond me how he stays on. I quite like this behaviour. lets me see his mouth apart from when he is on the glass.

began treatment with Maracyn 3 days ago. 2nd dose last night and final dose tomorrow bight. Helped almost immediately. IS no longer lying n his back panting. My gf saw him munching on some driftwood so I may be turning him around. Water change Sunday for sure so I'll know more then

just wanted to add an update. Merry Christmas everyone!:headbang2
