So I picked up a bushy nose pleco the other day at my lfs. I was going in for feeders and they looked pretty awesome and my tank needed a cleaner. So far so good. It already cleaned off the algea on the front of the tank and is motoring everywhere. This is probably the most active plecos I've ever seen. It's about 3 to 4 inches right now and from what I've read 4 and a half inches is about max? I'm not too positive on that info. Other than that my two pbass dont bother him and niether does my blood parrot. Any other tips on these guys will be appreciated. Thanks.

Neat. What kind? ABN? BBN? CBN?

Ehh. Feeders aren't the best choice of food.

Sounds hungry. :) It can't and won't live on algae only. It needs fresh veggies, such as zuccini and cucumber.

Not much bigger than that.

Congrats on the pick up. How big is the tank? Is the BN male or female?

Hope this helps you.

I dont have any idea on the variation of the bushy nose. I think its a male though. I have to get feeders for my younger pbass cause he wont eat pellets or freeze dried krill. I have him in a 55 gal right now. Soon the tank will be upgraded to a 3 or 4 hundred gal. I do throw in shrimp pellets and algae waffers. Ill look into getting some fresh veggies for him though.

Is it white, brown, or a reddish tint? White is ABN, Brown is just a standard brittlenose, and red is a calico brittlenose. Those are just the beggining common brittlenose colors. There is also, L-182's, L-183's, L-144, and others.

I think its a male though.

It has large bristles from the nose? If so, then yes it is a male.

Ok. You're on the right course.

Sounds good.

Personally, I don't recommend this. A fish that stays 5" will have a terribly hard time finding food in a 400g tank. If you can, leaving them in the 55g would be your best bet. For breeding purposes, you could also add two females. A great ratio is 1 male for 2 females.

Sounds ok to me. Throw in more of the algae waffers than shrimp pellets, though. The meatier the diets, the more of a change the fish has of having their intestines turned in mush. :(

:)

Oh he's just a normal brown colored one. Well I figured that if I had a large tank like a 3 or 4 hundred gal i would put enough food in there to feed him plus how many other I get. I pretty sure that if they can find food in the wild a 3 or 4 hundred gal tank shouldnt make it that hard.

Oh ok. Requirements are still the same.

Again, I advise against it, but you're the one in the control seat. :)

Probably, but it would be easier in a smaller tank.

Also, I noticed a TSN in your avatar. He going in your large tank too?
