I have a handful of longfin super red and longfin lemons in separate tanks with the intention of breeding. In the mean time, the only adults I have are 2 longfin lemon males and 1 short fin super red. I had no experience with breeding plecos so just to learn and get everything dialed in as far as breeding while the young longfins grow I put the red short fin female with the longfin lemon male together and got 2 batches of eggs back to back immediately. All of which are just the standard common color. Which is what I expected.
After the first 2 batches I swapped out one dad for the other. Just to give both some experience and practice taking care of the eggs. Well this batch of fry there’s some color variation it looks like commons mixed with lemons. I assumed these 2 dads were brothers because I bought them at the same place from the same tank and that they would share the same genes. But based on the results of this pair, I’m wondering what genes this dad would have that the other didn’t.
