Hi,

I am researching business ideas surrounding aquariums. My research has revealed an interesting idea that I feel might be somewhat saturated, but before I dismiss the idea completely I thought I'd run it by some of you for your feedback.

What do you think about aquarium rental/leasing/cleaning as a business idea?
Is this only viable in large cities, or can this work in smaller cities?

It sounds so simple. Can it really be that simple?

Sometimes the simplest businesses are the best (I know a guy who makes $100,000/year mowing lawns and trimming trees).

Can an aquarium rental service generate $50,000 a year as a one man operation? According to my preliminary calculations, 60-70 tanks should generate substantial cash flow, but I can't determine if that's doable as a 1 man operation.

Thanks for any feedback.

Depends,
Supply v.s demand.

Do some research and statistic on how many people around keep fish and how many people offer such services. You want many fish keepers and low services. That would give you a headstart

I know many LFS have set up/maintenance services with varying rates. I would try to start it as a weekend/part time thing and crunch numbers & work out a system that works and slowly build up customers. If it works out well expand. One question though, what do you mean by tank rentals/leasing?

Renting to those companies who only want aquarium as a show piece of art and have no actual interest in all the technical stuffs like filtration and water changes (which are done by the company on a routine basics)

Thanks for the tips and suggestions. I think this is a viable business. I'll start it on a part time business and grow into gradually.
