I saw one of these guys at my lfs the other day. I thought it was really cool. It was good sized and was $20. it was in fw at the time but i heard they do better in brackish water, but ive also heard they live in all sorts of aquatic environments and arent picky to what sg they live in. i was thinking about getting one for a brackish tank with a violet goby. Is it a good investment, or should i look elsewhere?

i got mine for cheaper but yes, they are awesome fish. i love mine but i haven't been able to get him to eat anything other than frozen or live(he teases me though by pretending to eat a pellet and then spitting it out a few minutes later) from what i understand they prefer BW but can do ok anywhere between FW and SW. mine is currently at 1.004SG and i plan on taking him up to about 1.016 eventually so i can add in my YTBD and maybe i might get a green wolf eel.

Great fish! Love there personality. Easy enough to lean off live to frozen foods. Prefer a light brackish set-up. Will live in fresh OK

I've worked in a pet shop for a long time, and I have never come accross this fish. I am really going to keep an eye out for it, very cool fish indeed.

How would these guys do with similar sized archers and mono's, and maybe a silver datnoid (if I can find one of the true brackish datnoids).

they'd do fine, i haven't tried keeping mine with other fish yet(except for 3/4" guppies) but from what i've read they won't bother anything too big to eat.
