buttekofri and oscars together???

has anyone had these 2 fish live together reasonably peacefully?

i am thinking of getting either a male jag(25cm) or a talapia buttekofri(17cm) to go in my tank.

tankmates will include -
1 25cm oscar
1 30cm oscar
1 20cm peacock bass
1 25cm sveni pike
2 12cm silver dollars
1 20 sm green severum
various plecos and catfish

tank is 7' x 2' x 2.5'

which one outta the butti or jag would you put in personally and has anyone got a similar setup?

I have seen it at a LFS called Aquarium World, They were all full length and in a very large pond (say 1000+ Gal?). There was a large arowana in there one day and a week later I went back and they say he got eaten lol
 
not sure mate, just to say my exsperience with jags and oscars was fine for 1.5yrs then all hell broke loss,that was in a 5/2/2ft,,,jag hated the oscars
 
Oscars compete for food and they can eat a lot!

I think such a mix is not advisable unless you can keep feeding the fishes constantly. I did a combination of parachromis with viejas before and used a timer feeder to keep them all occupied with feeding. I still get some bickering every few months, with a serious injury once in a while.

Butte, IMO no. Jag - maybe, depends on your luck.
 
ok thanks. personally i've only ever known 1 person who has owned a butti and that was in a 4x2x2. it killed pretty much everything including a texas as i was growing up but wasn't really what i would call and aggressive fish. i've known a few people who've grown up jags also and they seem more aggressive IME.

for these reasons i'm leaning towards a butti. i've heard quite a few stories of nutcase butti's though. hopefully the fact that it is quite a bit smaller than the O's will make him a little less aggressive
 
I think you're plenty over-stocked, too. Real estate in that tank will be at a premium when those fish hit sexual maturity. No way I'd put a Buttekofri in with Oscars &/or Severums :-O
 
yeah i suppose there are a few fish in there already. maybe i'll see how the tank goes with just the fish i've got at the moment. hehehe i just got a bit excited when i saw that really nice butti at my LFS.


DAMN cichlid addiction!! i swear they need to have meetings for us addicts lol
