i know butterflys eat sps corals, but will they eat soft corals, mushrooms, and/or lps corals. i am interseated in setting up a 55 gallon tank and keeping some butterflys, a lion, and maybe an angler is i can get my hands on one and im sure they will not touch the coral.

o and also how many butterflys could i comfortably fit in a tank that size? and do they do better in pairs, small groups for singely?

also in a 55
A) i wouldn't keep the lion too long, he'd get crowded
and B) inly have 1 butterfly
with that stocking i'd be looking at like a 100-125 upgrade in about a year or two

unless you get one of the "schooling" types of b'fly (which don't always 'school') like a semivalartus, addis, B&W heniochus, etc more than one b'fly is almost asking for trouble

as far as i know pyramid, zoster's and longnose b'flys are the most coral safe

thanks for the site Reefscape.

so ive decided to ditch the idea of keeping coral in this tank, i think im going to go with a Pakistan Butterflyfish (perferably a pair) and if not them then Heniochus acuminatus. Since i won't be able to upgrade systems i might not get a lion.. the one im looking at getting is a Radiata Lionfish it says on liveaquaria.com that they need minimum of 30 gallons so would they be fine for life in a 55? it says they cap out at about 10" and since i am not getting coral im thinking about a small puffer, some type of toby. and that would more then likely be the final fish added...

IGNORE THE MESSAGE ABOVE (i was going to edit it but i ran out of time)

still really on the fence on what kind of butterfly and open to suggestions, avalibility will be a hung factor for me since i live in N.B. Canada and selection is very limited (with only 1 lfs)

also if anyone by any chance knows of good sites to order fish from in canada would be a great help too.

j and l aquatics are probably your best bet with ordering fish online in canada
