i just had my butterfly koi breed in my 55 gallon i was wonder how long would it take for them to hatch... and for next time should there be some kind of cover in there for eggs to be layed in. i had a buddy that told me to go buy a new end for my mop and use it in the tank for them to lay in.... any suggestions ?

well that is the plan but not going to be ready anytime soon thats why im asking for a little help now :grinyes:

well it kills me the way they lay them cause it look liked they just shot them out and they landed where they fell thats why i was wondering if they need something to lay them in like plants or something cause when i build the pond here in a month or 2 was wondering what i need to put in it for them to breed... i mean if not they are just gonna lay on the ground and im sure they will get eattin... maybe a bucket or something dunno willl try something

Are you going to sell the offspring? If so, where to? And how old are your koi? And how many inches long are they?

The eggs are going to be eaten if you don't seperate from the fish. Next time use spawning brushes and mop heads. Also get a pond for them. ;)

Afterwards, remove the mops into your 55-gallon and wait for the eggs to hatch. Then you'll need a second pond to raise them in- they're monsters themselves. It's not unusual for them to top 4 feet, though one measured in at 8 feet.

Koi are egg scatterers. They just end up wherever there squirted.
