Can a Butterkoferi be kept with American cichlids of the same size and aggressiveness? Do they have the same food requiremnts? Are they omnivorous or carnivorous? Also are they prone to bloat like other africans if fed a diet that is too rich in portien? Thanks in advance for your replies. I tried searching it up but found conflicting answers.

I dunno. I keep mine with a Crenicichla Bellycrawler, Fire eel, Jack dempsy, True Nile Bichir, and shovelnose cat. Seems fine but he grew up with them, though.
yeah they do good with devil .jag .rt .a big o. tx.and feed them all the same i have never seen 1 with bloat.
my butti went well with all of my small cichlids.except for my jack dempsey he doesnt have a tail anymore.he didnt like my pacu either
i got mine with a dovii and pike...they have gotten along fine so far and they all eat the same foods
