Hi,

I have a Butti in a 4ft tank with a severum and clowns. Recently changed lights to LEDs and the one i got came with switchable white and blue lights.

At night when i switch the lights to blue, i have noticed that the butti gets all worked up. Thrashes water, tries jumping out of the tank and all sorts of weird behavior. Needless to say, i stopped using the blue light.

But is it something anyone else has experienced?

My Synspilum does the same stuff. Gets pretty crazy. My plecos love it though.

I think many fish freak out at the change in light, if its sudden and up above them; maybe they equate it to a shadow looming over them about to eat them.

I've found that putting the blue light on in tandem with the white, then switching white off; helps them not freak out so much

I run 2 of the 72" beamswork led lights on my 180. One is the 10000k with the white/blue or blue only settings, and the other is the 6500k which is full white or partial white settings. When I went on vacation I left it on a timer with the 6500k full on and only the blue on with the 10000k. My buddy said the fish were freaking out about something by the second day. We switched the blue only over to blue / white and they quit freaking out. Even though it was never just full blue. Just looks like twilight

My jack Dempsey cichlid went psycho after I tried the red light... He was always fine with blue though.

I have the led lights that switch to different colour options ( DIY ebay ones ) I do not dare putting a red hue on ... ..... it causes ww3 and a soaked floor.

interesting to read all that :) fishes and behaviour to lights.

it's all white now and my Butti is a happy fellow
