OK to cut the story short I have ended up having my mates juvanile buttikoferi in my 6x2x2 in my central American aquarium, has anyone ever had Sucess mixing buttikoferi with others, I know they can be a bit aggro, also I vented as female

I never did. Killed everything in the tank including pleco.
I am assuming you know that buttis are African? Not sure the water conditions will be the same as what you are currently stocking.

This was back in the mid 90s before I knew much about fish keeping. I had 5 or 6 butti’s in a 75 gallon bought as juivies . The dominant male picked each of the other fish off. The pleco was the last victim. I thought it was safe since it was a different species. Came downstairs to find a head attached to a spine and tail. Nothing else left. Kept that fish until it was about 10 inches long or so. Beautiful fish but the thing took a chunk out of the back of my hand one day when i was cleaning the tank. Traded him into the pet store shortly after. Looking back tank was definitely too small.

Depends on the cichlids in the tank. Anything but a Dovii, RTM or a Midas WILL get bullied or possibly killed. My female butti, at only 4 inches had my 6 inch Male Texas backing whenever she swam near him.
Even when my Texas pair had eggs they were hesitant to defend it against her.

Personally I would try adding a breeding pair of convict cichlids to the tank. They may be very small but they have allot of attitude to them. Mine used to bully my 14in giant gourami I had to the point he was almost glued to the side of the tank with only 4in of wiggle room along with 2 8in Oscars, 4 5in mbuna, a 4in green terror, 2 6in pike cichlids, 2 common plecos (¹ 8in, ² 14in), 2 American flathead catfish 8in, and a 6in green Texas. They were extremely mean lil fish with plenty of back bone.
