A year ago I bought a dozen buttikoferi at about 1". My tank sprung a leak and I had to move them into a temporary tank while I repaired it. Half of them didn't make it past the first few weeks, most likely because of the stress of being moved multiple times.
One of the 6 surviving jumped out of the tank about 6mo later and I didn't catch it in time, so I was down to 5. None of them had shown any interest in pairing off, everyone got along well, and I thought I'd end up with the big male living in the tank solo when he eventually became aggressive.
Last week, to my surprise, he paired off with the smallest female. The two began terrorizing the other three, so off to the LFS they went. The pair had been digging holes in the sand all week and today the female was hanging out at the bottom when I went to feed them. I looked to see what she was up to and found a whole pile of eggs!
They appear to be fertilized. This is my first time breeding anything so I'm not getting my hopes up until I see them hatch. Has anyone here bred buttis before? Any tips/advice?
