Anyone would like to share their stories about their butti? :D
About 4 years ago I picked up a 7inch buttikoferi for my old mixed community cichlid tank, over all not much aggression a 14 inch jaguar kept everyone in check, however I have him away due to change in interests. "Recently" about 10 months ago i had a spare 120 gallon i purchased a separate 9 inch buttikoferi who showed the opposite level of aggression and was one of the best cichlids i had owned personality wise, unfortunately im the sort of person who gets bored of a fish only tank (impulsive) so went and got a tank mate...
The fish I brought as a tankmates was a 13 inch male vieja synspilum who was living in a mixed community in the store, as soon as I added him the tilapia went crazy instantly beating the synspilum for 10 minutes straight. At the time I had no other tanks available as fry were growing out etc. So I went out knowing id probably come home to a dead fish but what I didn't know was when I came back the fish dead was not the synspilum but the buttikoferi, the synspilum had some power from the way it used to strike the glass to get me. So I guess the buttikoferi must of tired out and lost control and the synspilum was relentless unfortunately it just goes to show that each individual fish is different and anything can happen in the fish worl

That must suck. Didn't know syspilum are so tough.

Most cichlids without enough tank space will turn into killers...and then there are just the plain evil ones who beat other fish for fun
Synspilum are a fish who are the worst a different synspilum took out a pair of bags with fry ! An umbee female, black belt cichlid and a black diamond

The synspilum was 10 inches
The male jag was 10 inches the female was 8 inches, the umbee was 7 and the black diamond was 9 the black belt was 8
Well that synspilum wasn't playing around.
My buttikoferi was only 4 inches when she started to take over the 125. First my convict took a beating...then my female Texas and soon after my male Texas. Even defending eggs they couldn't stop her. Eventually all 6 feet of the tank was hers.
