Hi I am looking into either getting a canister filter (dont know which one yet) to run along w/ my w/d on my 180gal tank.

I do however have access to a custom canister filter made like more then 20yrs ago w/ a Iwaki pump mounted on it. I would run it but its 220v. I only have 110v outlets in my house.

The question is should I get a used Iwaki pump 110v and mount it on the canister or buy a new modern canister filter? This OG filter seems like it could hold alot of filter media and I would really want to see for myself how well those Iwaki pumps perform seeing as the one on the filter STILL works after all these years!! The dimensions are 14" x 10" x 14"

Here is a few pics of this filter.

My dad got it when we were still living in Hong Kong. He was running it on his saltwater tank. I asked him recently and he said the fish shop he went to had it made for him.

Any one ever seen these kind of filter before and would like to comment on them?

you can swap the motors on the pump get the hp , and frame size off the motor and swap it out for a 110
you can find a motor from here or some place simm. http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/ww...PPC: Google-_-TPN - Brand-_-Granger-_-granger

its not hard to run a 220v line but i would just replace the pump

I have no idea how to swap the motor in the pump so I guess I'll just look out for deals on the Iwaki pump.

I'm sure it will be worth the money seeing as they seem to last a long time.

It depends on what you are going to spend on the iwaki. I cannot see the canister because it is a private album, but do you know how much media it will hold? If not, what shape is it in and what are the dimensions?

I would probably get an eheim 2260 and add it to the tank, but that is just because that will give you the option to upgrade to an even more monster tank in the future. That eheim is about 300-320 dollars new, but I am not sure how much a new iwaki pump of the right size is. If it was under $300 and the diy canister holds about 15 liters or so of biomedia then I would do it... Otherwise I would go with the eheim 2260 (or 2262 for the same amount of flow just more media).
