I can buy a little 4-5 inch Leichartdi Arowana for 150 bucks right now, but he has some wicked gill curl. It has been at my LFS for awhile along with another. Originally they weren't gonna sell them, had them in a big tank on display. They fought alot and they didn't have two tanks big enough.. so one was put in like a 35 gallon.. not for sale however. The one that has been in the big tank is awesome, about 10 inches with bright pink spots...not for sale. The little guy in the 35 is now for sale for 150 bucks..can't even get a jardini for that around here. With the right tank and water does he have a chance to lose the gill curl and grow out nice like the other? Should I buy it?

i say buy it anyway. gilcurl adds character. im sure with a bigger tank and good water he'll be happier then ever, whats a lil flaw? i prefer good friendship. my aro has cock eye and everyone makes fun of mine but do i care?

Im not 100% sure, but i believe if the gill curl has hardened only surgery can fix it. If its still early on it might be treatable. i think There is a Sticky in the arowana forum that covers gill curl breifly.

ya sure itll fix up on its own. i recently just bought a 3 inch leichartdi it came with gill curl.. i really dont know why a lot of them have been coming in with gill curl. but mines had improved a lot. it grew a lot within a week and the gill curl started flattening out.

I'm gonna go talk to the store owner today and see if mention the gill curl he might give me a better deal.... it seems to me he just want to get rid of it since he has two.

If it's a minor case of gillcurl, you can correct it by following the below mentioned.:)

1) maintain water quality and add aquarium salt
2) raise temp to 29'C

Observe for a few days and see if it'll flatten back nicely.:)
