Buy big or small?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Larger fish do not always adjust as well as smaller ones. Also, there's the joy of raising a fish from its youth.

The only advantage of buying big is that it can't be eaten by fish than a smaller fish can.

And a lighter wallet, :D but hey, someones got to keep the economy going!

Hi,I think its best to buy fishes when small for a few important reasons, first they will eat what is given, two they get acclimatized faster and better to their tank and owners!

Plus poly's grow pretty quickly, so it's kind of a waste of money to buy them bigger, unless you get a great deal.

IDK, but I just picked up a 4" endli today. Personally, I like raising my fish and getting them used to me from an early age. Also find it easier to train them to eat what I want them to eat.

this is my reasoning too... that's why i bought 2 young ones (2 inchers)... though i would like to know some reasons why i should buy big (at least 4 inchers)... ;)

ok... that's one reason :)

And the instant gratification. :naughty:

another reason (though not my preference since adjusting big involves big risks)...

hmmmmm... like unless it is a real deal... nice reasoning...

i hope there are other reasons out there... i saw a pair or ornates and boy they were beauts... it was hell trying to control myself from buying them since they were the price of a 5 inch silver arowanas each... grrrr...

I've bought all of my fish as juveniles, even my congo tetras. I enjoy the satisfaction of raising them myself and watching their develoupment. Additionally, since I keep my polys in a community setting the last thing I need is a wild caught adult used to hunting live fish.... congo tetras are too expensive for that :D

Aside: hmmmm... live caught? how would we know which are live caught and which are captive bread?...

Buy big or small: please post your reasoning... (dang do i have a lot of questions right now)... my 2 inchers are not shy xD... and they chomp on pellets as if there's a label on it like "food" and they can read xD
