Hello,

Well justt wanted to introduce myself, and tell of my future plans of a MONSTER TANK.

Go big or Go home right??

Well this is all up in the air still and will probally be well over a year or two or more befor it comes to reality. But herego my plans for mymonster tank.

L shape Plywood tank.. Been doing much research on DIY tanks and feel as long as it is quality constructed, will hold for many years.

Its going into my finished basement in the walls, and will have a fish room to hold all filtration and equipment

Here is some quick specs:

2400 gal display tank volume
L shape
Two 8ft x 4ft veiwing pains. One on each wall
350 gal Diy Sump
100 gal Diy Automated water change daily = 25% a week.
ONE HELL of a filtration system.
lighting is yet to be determined
And lots of Monster Fish.. (stocking list TBD)

Veiwing pains are 1in thick 4x8ft acrylic.
The tank, sump and wate changer are all going to be made of 1in plywood, lots of bracing, fiberglass, and epoxy.
the bottom will have a 1/4in acrylic sheet layed to help prevent any rocks sraping and what not. Just for protective purposes.

Filtration is curently being researched, but so far i know its goin to have four 3ft over flows, tons of pot scrubers, and tons of lava rock. and i havn't researched pumps yet, but is going to have to turn atleast 10k a day. The sump is going to have its own over flow. To remove extra water from daily changes.

Water changer is going to dump 100 gal fresh into the tank. tank will overflow to the sump, sump will overflow to a floor drain. once a day. talk about a plumbing nightmare.....

This whole project is going to be DIY for 2 main reasons.

#1 Its fun, exciting, and will be a tank I'm proud of.
#2 Cost, whole system can be done for under 5k.

Whadda ya tink?????

Am I Crazy?

That sounds like an awesome project. I would think that you would need alot more that 10k gal per day. More like 10k per hour. You could probably achieve that with 3 Mag-Drive 36 pumps. You could probably get them for under $200 a piece. Hopefully some day I'll be able to do something like that.

Good Luck

Thanx for the welcome. This thread can stay here then.

This thing is going to be one Monster Tank to complete.

Sounds like a great setup  ...I would love to have that option. I will settle for my Little 240g & 200G tanks.
