Buying a generator

So my area is prone to power outages and tomorrow we are supposed to get a big storm with possible power outages, and I did not buy a generator!

I am wondering what size generator you would need to just heat two average sized dining and living rooms to at least 75 degrees.

Anybody have any experience or ideas?

If you plan on running a couple space heaters and your fridge, fish tanks, TV, et cetera then you will want one that puts out at least 5000 watts.

I recently bought a new generator. It is a Ridgid brand, Subaru-powered, 8000W unit I picked up at Home Depot. It is also an electric start, a big improvement over my old Generac brand generator that it replaces.
