I wanna buy a GT MALE....but at Petsmart they are all about 1-2 inches big...how can i make sure that i buy a MALE GT? what to mainly look for?

Phew... Thats going to be tough when that small. Try you're hardest to get the one with a nuchal started, if there is one.

Someone else will chime in and tell you what the male fins are like!

I would say very tough. I just bought one yesterday and it is about 3 inches and while I am hoping it is a male it was very hard to tell. They all looked the same to me except this one was the dominating fish (but that really isn't any measure) and the colors seemed to be the most vibrant (which is more of a hope than a measure).

i think its nearly impossible when theyre that small. best bet would be to buy a few and hope that one turns out to be male

Just pick the largest and one with the most orange on it's tail and hope for the best.

agree, from everything ive read about them, look for the brightest and thickest orange bands on the tail fin and dorsal. but its all guess work at that size. also study the tank full of them for a while and see who is the most dominant as its likely to be a male (still not a guarantee though).
the only way to guarantee a male is to buy a known male from someone.

ok, just look for the most colorful and the most dominant...

thats what i was told to look out for. supposedly it gives you a better chance of finding a male. you might get lucky and they may have a young one with a small but noticeable nochal hump but thats unlikely.
