I have recently found a really good deal on a 150g that has a broken top support. The guy said that he had it up for about a year with the broken support and had no problems. I know that it will be easy to fix I'm just curious if what he did could have compromised the integrity of the tank.

Is it a good idea to buy this tank or do you think it will be a problem? It is 6ftx18x24 so i assume there is more then one support brace. I'm going to look at this on Weds so quick reply's would be good. Thanks.

I think you will be fine to buy it and replace the brace. I am in the process of getting a 180 gal braced that never had any bracing and it ain't broke.

You can't compare the two. The 180 was designed to be built without a brace and likely has thicker glass. If the 150 had cross bracing, well it was put there for a reason and will need repaired.

BTW a 72" x 18" x 24" is not a 150g tank

Its more like a 125 gallon, i would say don't go for it unless its a VERY good deal.

Would all depend on the price. If it is super cheap, then repair might be worth it. If not, then I wouldn't bother.

:iagree: If it's just the tank.. I wouldn't spend more 'n 125$ for it. and I'de be thinking possible scam... I can get a 125 glass w/ 2 overflows, stand, and tops brand new for 600$ And it's hard finding tanks bigger 'n 75gals around here.
