I'm getting ready to place an order with Jeff Rapps for a group of Midas. My plan is to buy a group of 6 or 8. My thought is that this will allow me to get a pair of Midas that I like. Jeff also said that raising the juveniles together will allow for pairs to form naturally.

If I do this, in your experience, does this increase my chances of being able to keep the pair together in one tank?

this will definitely help, usually a pair will get along quite nicely if they are able to naturally pair together like that and of course have a large enough tank, with bruisers like midas you should definitely still keep a divider handy but with a natural pair that grew up together your chances are definitely a lot better of being able to house them together with just nice hides that the female can go into to get away from the male if she needs to

Muscle ... what size is your tank ?

Definitely. I bought 5 when I got my first 75(didn't know better then) and ended up getting a pair, but unfortunately she laid eggs and he went nuts and wiped out the whole tank. I did have a few babies to keep at least.

i bought 6 fish from jeff and ended up with 2 pairs. if you leave them all together they form better humps.

125 should be ideal for a pair for life. And as the others stated, growing them out together and letting a pair form naturally will greatly improve your chances of getting a compatible pair that won't bicker and fight...could still happen though, so as sarah said, keep a divider handy.
