looking to get back into piranhas should i buy big size 8inches. medium or babies? also how many can i put into a 90 gallon.

From my own experience it's more satisfying to watch them grow from babies. 1" is a good starting point and that's what most lfs sell them at. They grow rapidly anyway, mines grew grew at just over 1" per month so they won't stay babies for long. They'll reach full size in just over a year. As for size of tank, a 90 gallon is more than sufficient for a shoal of 8-10 babies. Baring in mind that some will be the victims of canabalism. But that size tank should do them for life :)

We loved watching ours grow from babies as well. We got a deal by purchasing many babies at a time and as they grew bigger, we rehomed however many we thought we needed to in order to keep a good amount in our 125 gallon. Currently we have 5 adults in there and it fits them well even though some other piranha keepers may argue that more space would be needed for the 5.

From our experience, we found that Red Bellied Piranha are fast to grow and if kept underfed or overcrowded, they will turn on each other and eat the more unfortunate ones. We only lost 1 of the original babies and that loss was not from cannibalism but rather when they got spooked, one managed to jump out and hit the light. Fried baby piranha. :( So, just make sure to feed often, have a good lid, and don't overcrowd and you should be fine. Goodluck! (:

They are so aggressive when they are small.

You can buy in bulk when they are small for cheap, that's what I would do.
