hello MFK,

as said in the title, im looking for a recommendation for a link or store that sells small frozen whole fish. im in the process of weening a couple of my fish off live foods. When i was training my Scomb and hujeta off live foods, i used frozen minnows and it worked (they took strips of tilapia and smelt right after striking the floating frozen minnow). Anyways, for the past week i've been trying to ween my red tail barracuda (Ace F.) off live foods and i was wondering if there is a place i can buy/order small frozen fish so i dont need to kill/freeze the fish myself? I've looked into silversides, but my red tail barracuda is about the same size as the ones they sell at Petsmart. Recommendations of frozen fish the size of rosey red minnows would suffice.

Thanks!

i've tried small silverfish from the asian supermarket that look like little noodles, but my barracuda isnt accepting it. i guess it doesnt look like a minnow or goldfish enough to accept. but my datnoid loves them!

Do you have a large wholesale kind of supermarket (e.g costco) near you? Mine often has frozen anchovies, small sardines etc.

i actually visited a local seafood wholesale place near my work after seeing your post. I went in and asked if they sell really small fish and showed them a picture of a minnow on my phone and requested one this size. the smallest fish they sold was the size of my barracuda lmao... im going to try going to costco sometime this weekend and try my luck there

cut em up

the reason for the small fish is to present to my barracuda as a whole fish to ween off live foods.

When i offer it cut up tilapia the shape of minnows, it refuses it even with it tied to a fishing line. but once i drop in a dead/frozen minnow, it strikes it instantly.
