I've been searching all over for a 240g (48x48x24), the stores in my area won't order anything that big and the ones that will want an arm and a leg. What is a good site to get a cheap (but reliable) tank?

if you were in canada I could get you one cheap brand new if they want outrageous money pm I will see if my contact can ship to you for a good price they are located in central canada and do quality tanks for very good prices
i've looked on tenecor but they do not list it so you know the prices will be up there for a custom job.
Glass cages is the cheapest I've found but I've heard mixed emotions about them. Anyone have any experience with one of their larger glass tanks (they only offer those dimensions in glass)?

That's not a typical size. Big tanks are not cheap. These two companies can make custom tanks:
