Buying used canister

I just purchased a used rena xp3 for my tank. I wanted a little bit more filtration. Is there anything that should be done to a used canister before hooking it up?

Rinse out the sponges/media, let them dry, and hook it up. If it's been dry for a long time I wouldn't worry about it.

Yea thats what i do just clean with HOT water

Sweet, will do. Adding another filter that does not have the bb have any affect on anything? It'll just take time for the new canister to really be affective? Otherwise no big deal? I'm pretty sure my sump and emperor can handle the tank, but I still wanted a canister.
