Buying Used Truck

I am currently trying to buy a used 4x4 truck for $5000 or less, looking on craigslist, local dealers, the usual. Since anything i find will be old and fairly high mileage, would any of you have any suggestions as far as models/brands to look for/avoid. I know that most of this has to do with how the vehicle was used. I also know that some makers have great reliability and other are not so much. Any info on truck reliability?

I have been looking at a lot and I am pretty sure whatever it is I like the old boxy styles best, with the bench seats.

I was watching Mad Men a while back and the main guy is driving late at night with his hot ass wife leaning up against him on the bench seat, I was like, that's boss.

I think all vehicles have there flaws- my neighbor has early 2000's chevy silverado 1500 for sale right now because he said it is nothing but problems.
