I'm curious as to what size tank you think the cost tipping point favors building a plywood tank over buying a glass tank. Would 300g be about right?

More so around 500and up but 300 is a good start, much much better than people wanting to build 100 gals lol. For example i have around $1200-1700 in my 650gal build but the 3,200gal im building will cost the same or less....just have to be smart about material dimensions so ur not wasting any material your paying for. Best advice is keep it standard like 4'x8'x2'....i made the mistake of making my 650 9'x4'x30" and i had alot of material left over. The 3k im making uses full sheets of plywood...no stand or bottom of the tank so it saves aloooot of material and money.

Also ive bought 300,450,230's,220,200's all for under $600 each and all acrylic.

These are the dimensions I keep playing with. Essentially the 8 x 2-ish x (choose depth) will get you anywhere in the 300-500ish. Keeping it at 8' I know will massively reduce costs by using full sheets of ply and lumber. I just don't know exactly what (how big) I want to go with yet. I'm a relative noob in the hobby. I've gone from a 20 to 55 to 125 in a year so I guess it just makes sense for the next one to be at least 300:D

Looking online I could get a 300 wide 8x2.5.x2 for ~$1750. Preliminary estimate of building a 300ply are around ~$1500. And I guess if I'm going to go 300 with an 8' length, might as well push it to 450 with very little cost increase  hmmm, decisions decisions.

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place for tanks too. I know around here on CL people are really damn proud of their used tanks. But I keep looking!

Thanks buddy!
