Just wondering if any of you guys had, had any success mixing cichlids and oddballs in large community tanks. Id love to add a oddball fish into my community such as giant gourami or mbu puffer but dont think i could risk throwing my relatively peaceful community up in arms. So i thought id rely on some of you braver fish keepers to see if you had already done it or hear your thoughts on if you think it would work

Even if someone has made it work it means absolutely nothing for you and me. Stuff like that is so unpredictable and every fish is different. You best bet is with less aggressive fish from each end of the spectrum. I have seen many cichlids kept with arowana, bichirs, gar, and other non cichlids but also seen it not work just as often. If you want to try post up the stock you want and tje tank they will be in and I'm sure that will shed some light on the situation buy nobody can tell you if it will work 100% of the time.

I agree with the above posts about unpredictabilty with these types of setups.

It can work. I myself keep SA/CA cichlids with an Arow and a Bichir.

Dithers fish will probably help a bit, if tank space allows. But keep in mind that they may not get along, always have a back up plan and tank.

unpredictable,i agree.you could start with some larger dithers, see if you like the look.SD,giant danios, filament barbs.not really odd types, but can create a different look, more movement sometimes

I've had pretty good results mixing fish. Still a few here and there that were a bully or to aggressive and had to been removed. I have a 55 gallon with a small Oscar, 2 convicts, electric cat fish, and 3 climbing perch.

you can mix all kinds of stuff together i have had pacu with sa's before, but i always regret mixing up stuff and revert back to species tank

and no one the puffer they are one fish that needs a big tank... fahaka's are a more manageable size but are nasty as ______
