Hi Friends,

I have had 5 Juvenile Blue dolphins in me 150G tank for 1 month now and yesterday 2 of the bigger ones start fighting violently which resulted in tearing of dorsal fins of 1. I noticed today morning that the injured one came up for feeding but was quickly chased away by the other to the back of tank.

Is this normal behavior of C.Moories since I have read that they are normally peaceful compared to other Africans? Also if this fight continues what should I do? Return the injured to LFS or will it survive?

Help required!!!

K then, ill wait till I am left with 1 dominant male and hope he pairs off with a female so that I can keep the pair...

I have an adult group of 3m6f in a 125g tank. What you are seeing is normal dominace battles.Id take out the the one thats beating on the others for a month, let the others heal and form a new social order then put him back in.They are not pair forming fish,1m with 1 female will most often result in a dead female. You want more females than males and your tank is large enough to get a nice group going.Aim for 2-3x as many females as males.

i agree with gomezladdams, remove the aggressive fish if the problem continues, rearrange some things in your tank and wait for another male to become dominant, then re-introduce the aggresive fish .

If its only those two fish fighting its likely because its two males fighting over female/s . My dolphin (i only have one) is a aggressive little bugger. I had to remove him from my fronts and red empress cause he was shredding them. He wouldnt stop either. It was a daily problem. I put it in with some peacocks and it is a much better fit. I was not able to put it back in because it would just start fights all over again. I have left it with the peacocks now. Even my peaceful red empress can get real nasty during spawning episodes then he calms down again after they breed. It could be spawning induced. How big/old are your moori ? Mine got aggressive about at 3 to 4 inches long. Hope this is helpful. You can make sure that all fish are fed by dropping food on both sides in the front and even the back of the tank where your filters go into the tank. Try to put it all in at the same time so if one fish is chased off he can get it at another spot in the tank...
