People who have a little experience please chime in. How fast do these guys grow? Fast like dovii or slow like festae? What is their aggression like twords each other and twords other cichlids as if in a community setting? Do they require special attention like black nasty or are they pretty robust like amphilophus? I'm thinking of getting a group of juvies and growing them out maybe keep it species only or maybe add other cichlids not sure because I don't know anything about them! ANY info would be phenomenal

You and I must have been thinking about the same thing this morning lol. I posted a similar question right around the same time you did.

I can answer a few of your questions. They seem pretty robust and will eat most foods. Mine are on a combination of NLS thera pellets, Osi Spirulina flakes, regular flakes, bloodworms and krill and they like it all. They seem to have a somewhat normal growth rate as far as cichlids go. Mine have really bulked up in the 6 months or so I've had them. As far as compatibility in a community tank goes I'm still not sure of that. While mine seem very mild mannered at the moment i have heard of them being compared to a Festae so I am anticipating them getting more aggressive as they mature but I'm not sure and thats why i posted asking about others experience with this fish. I have tank space for mine should they become too aggressive for my Geo's.

I'm not sure about how they are when they are below 8" as I got mine already at 9" and grew to 10" a month later. They are kinda shy and curious at the same time but still aggressive. Mine just won the fight for dominance against a 15" jaguar cichlid and also will chase away my 9" umbee. My male ornatum is the dominant cichlid in my tank at the moment but that might change when the umbee grows much bigger. My ornatum will even chase my 12" chevron snakehead as chevron snakeheads are one of the top 10 most aggressive snakehead out there. I never own a mature festae only small females so I have no comment if they are similar in a way. My ornatum will just eat about anything I offer it. From massivore to prawns/shrimps his favorite to cut up pacific smelt which really help a lot of his color development. I just wonder what they gonna be like at 16" as they said it's the max size.
