Can anyone help ID this fish- it was sold as a asthaheros rostratum (maybe) the owner of the store could recall which astaheroes it was. It's about 5" with a black throats and pink and yellow above

Thanks Duanes I actually was reading a thread of yours wth these same photos, which sparked my post. I figured you'd be the guy.
Honored to get a reply from such a high profile member!
I adjusted your photo to make it easier to see for me, and it does look like rostrum to me, and a fine specimen. There are other Astatheroine (actually the genus is now, Cribroheros) like alfari, and altifrons you may want to google, to compare though, but I believe rostrum is correct.
I agree w/ Duane, definitely cribroheros rostrum. They are no longer astherheros due to recent reclassification. As they get older, the colors get really nice. It takes a very long time for them to grow. This one I have is over 8". I bought he/she in 2009.
Very nice fish OP.
Definitely a good price. You'll love both species. Some cichlids lose color as they get older, but not these cribroheros. They are well worth the wait. I keep c. Robertsoni and c. Rostrum together with no aggression issues at all. In fact they ignore each other. They are usually too busy shifting through the sand as they are CA eartheater equivalent to geos.
