I was told sting rays are not allowed in CA. by Fish & Game. I tried to find out what is not allowed in CA. on the web. I couldn't find a sight pertaining to this. I called Sacramento twice and never could connect with a live person. I got a number for a F&G office in Los Alamitos CA. Was on hold for 5 min., hung up, tried again and actually talked to a person that didn't have any answers. She said she'd have a game warden call me, 6 hours ago. Does any one out there have any answers for me? I'd appreciate your help.
Thanks, Cigar Larry

I'm pretty sure they are illegal. I think there is a sticky somewhere that has info about this.

I know freshwater sting rays are def. illegal here in CA; not so sure about salt water rays because i've seen it for sale at the LFS.

There's sticky threads here on illegal fish lists.

I think snake heads is illegal in most of the states inc. CA. I think electric eels too, and
can't tell you about the hoplius.

yeah, someone asked the same question on 04-08-08.

Master Odd Ball posted restricted species list before, and saw another attachment just
for CA.

Still can't find info on your hopsilius or electric eel actually, but I think on safe side, probably restricted just because of size, and it can zap people.

site is http://www.ca.gov/licensing/pdffiles/fg1518.pdf

Good luck.

Ca fish and game dont know very much. My brother works for them, he says they are actually very lazy. Keep bumping this thread, there are plenty of non california members who love telling californians what they can and cant own. They have the ca restricted list saved and ready to post.
good luck on your fish hunt!

I saw an electric eel on myth busters, and they are located in the bay area. Unless they had a permit, might be legal. Ive also seen them sold in lfs.
