what does it take to legally own a ratle snake in California,if its even possible.Ive been out of touch with the laws for a while,i dont keep anything ileagal but i would like to know the right way that is done.Legally i mean.Is their breeding programs that i could start or be involved in.My girlfriend and i stepped over a mohavi green a few months back, gorgeous!Started sounding off after we stepped over it,snake must have been daydreaming because im 230 pounds and it didnt feel me coming:).

I don't know if the laws have changed recently. But, the only hotroom licenses CA issues are for commercial endeavors and research (institutions only). The facilities are pre-inspected before the license is granted. Strict inventories are required as are announced/unannounced inspections. The facilities can't be a shared living dwelling for humans (can't be IN your house). The facilities are expensive due to the escape proofing

Fishing license. You can keep two animals of each of the 10 species found in CA. Sadly, with that license you can molest, kill, torment, bagger, uproot, any and all rattlers you see. There is no bag limit, but rather a keeping limit. Also, laws within your given county will determine if you're able to keep venomous reptiles or not.

Remember that all CA native species ranges occur outside the state as well. There's some pretty smokin hot looking speckled rattlers in AZ......that's all I'm going to say. You can figure out the rest.

anyone second any of this?thanks to both of you, oddball you seem to always come through with good info on here, what do you think of toblers? And just a side note,i would not do this ilegaly, not worth the worries,or the fines im sure.

Unless you plan on having Fish and Game over for dinner, or you attract unwanted attention from the law, dont sweat it. Up until a year ago I kept Rattlers for years. They are beautiful creatures and yes I have kept them in my house. You cant just keep them like you can a boa or python. You have to take massive precautions and have the proper equipment. I had tongs, gloves with plastic guards that went to my elbows, a snake stick, pole nooses, knee high boots, and I still could have moere stuff. Their enclosure had hinges and magnetic holddowns and was always locked. And I never , ever handled them. I had police officers at my house and they didnt care cause they saw That I was keeping them responsibly. Also. Mojave Greens are especially aggressive and venomous, moreso than the other 3 species native to my area (western diamondback, Red Dback, and southern pacific rattler, Though the SPs are pretty bad too).

If you all need additional info on the legal issues surrounding HOT keeping in California, visit fish and game's website.

they deleted my origianal word in stead of morons,it was bad sorry for that,so if what you read isnt funny, just know it used to be.however not my style, and if you dont know what the helk im talkin about, who cares.:)

I was under the impression you didn't need a permit to keep native hot species..(aside from the fishing liscense)
