Now that I've got both my 55's and my 29 all set up, I'm looking into refurbing the old 20 long and keeping either a small community or a single fish in it and making it heavily planted.

What cichlids would you guys reccomend for a 20 gallon long community? Tankmates with them? A single or pair of decent sized (for a 20 gallon) cichlids? I prefer fish that aren't going to look at the plants and instantly become enraged and uproot them.

I CAN go larger, but I probably won't for this setup, so it must be able to live its whole life in the 20 gallon, the focus will probably be on the plants more than the fish, but I do love my cichlids.

Laetacara curviceps pair or an apisto trio, along with a school of tetras and some oto's.

Apistos, rams, or kribensis...

Always wanted to keep rams but...Although experienced, I've heard they are almost as hard to keep as discus. Are they really as difficult and finicky as people say, or are they as resilient as other SA's?

I've only ever used the 20 as a growout for larger tanks, this is my first time actually looking for smaller fish, guess I did things backwards :nilly:

Finding healthy blue rams can be tricky, but if kept warm they do fine if healthy.

Ok so I'm thinking the Bolivian Rams with 2 or 3 ottos, I have 5 Buenos Aires Tetras I can stick in there, but I feel like they like more room and would be a little too aggro for the Ram, what Dithers should I use?

And thanks for all the suggestions guys!

Breeding Cons or Firemouths.
