CA/SA Cichlid Fry Growing Tecniques????

I wait until the second day after all of the fry have hatched and are still wigglers, then syphon them out into a bucket and move them to a growout tank. When I let them grow out to be free swimming and all over the tank they can get hard to catch in larger tanks. I feed Hikari frozen baby brine shrimp until they can take a ground up pellet. I've used NLS grow as well but it can get spendy as often as I feed fry. For pairs in tanks in their own tank I generally leave the fry but the feeding remains that same.

thank you jk. how do you administer the baby brine shrimp? do you let it dissolve or still frozen?

I raise the frys myself, as soon as they lose the sac and are free swimming I "turkey baster" the lil ones into grow out containers. But once they out grow that, then they must be moved to bigger containers. Even at .5" or smaller, they are vicious and will kill if not enough space.

I learned that feeding no less than 2 times per day is best. Good Luck, trial and error, learn from it.

I used to hatch them but that was a pain in the butt. I run a little hot water in a cup, lets a few cubes disolve while stirring them then run a little cold water over it to balance out the temp. I use a syringe (spelling?) to suck up all of the water/BBS and "shoot" it at the fry to target feed. Let me know if you want a picture of what I use.

Thats why I transfer them into small half gallon to a gallon size containers. This way the food (baby brine, First Bites) will be easily seen and eaten up.

i have been trying a turkey baster to get the bbs to the fry but am still not sure if its working. thanks for the replies:)

what kind of water changes do you perform on the small containers?

I don't like turkey basters because you can't get the pressure I can get with my syringe. I literally target the fry in some tanks as tall as 30" without issues. Hang on I'll go snap you a pic so you can see what I mean.

Turkey baste the babies. raise them in a grow out tank. feed finely ground grower high in protein and brine shrimp. also small water changes daily or every other day.
