Ok so I'm looking at a 220 listed on this site for sale. If I bought it I would house CA/SA in the tank. Now my only problem is that my basement has very very irregular walls. My 120, which is a 4' tank is the only tank I can have out in the main area. I do however have a bedroom in my basement that I use for an office. And if I bought this tank it would go in there. Only problem is that the bedroom get absolutely no light. This isn't an issue for my 120 because it's a walkout basement and it get a little light during the day.

So my question is for those of you with similar situations....what do you do? You leave a dim light on during the day or anything? Or do your fish stay in pitch black for 20 hours a day?

yes but I don't want to turn the lights on the tank for 12+ hours a day. For my 120 I just open a curtain and just enough light comes in so they are not asleep. This bedroom however is as dark as a cave and I would think having that much light on a tank per day would cause problems.

My fish room has no windows so I have lights in the room on timers that turn on at 7am and trun off at 9:30pm. I use the daylight energy saving fluorescents that screw into a regular socket.

When I go in the room I turn on more light but because the room always has some light the fish are not startled by a sudden light.

it takes a fishs eyes up to 30 min to adjust to a sudden change in light.

If you live in Indy feel free to come over and see mine.

Thanks. Yeah thats what I was worried about. I hate freakin em out by turning on the light after bing in pitch black. My only other concern about this is that I am afraid if the tank is out of site all the time I might not be as interested in it as my tank that is in my living area. Do you spend a lot of time in that room or is it just because of the tank that your in there? I like this tank but I don't want the out of site out of mind thing to take over after buying it. ya know?

Well I have the following tanks in there now....

6 - 20 gal
4 - 29 gal
3 - 55 gal
1 - 75 gal
2 - 90 gal
1 - 120 gal
1 - 125 gal
1 - 180 gal
1 - 2200 gal (I'm in the middle of setting it up now)

you will find that the fish really don't care how much time you spend with them as long as they get fed.

Some days I'm in there for hours and some days not at all.

If money isn't a problem I would recomend the bigger tank and then spend as much time with it as you want to.... it's not a job and the fish won't mind.

My tanks are in the basement too, and coincidentaly,I use the same format as Repair, with the screw in energy saver bulbs, and a few strip shop lights.
Because I use planted sumps to help control nitrate buildup, I have the timers set to go on the planted sumps 1st, that way buffering the initial shock as the tanks with fish go on about 20 minutes later.
Because I leave for work at 5AM, and I like to feed before I go(and do a 10% water change), the sumps light go on at about 3:30.
