Ok folks, over christmas break I went and visited my brother in San Diego. I used to live in San Diego a while back and I really liked it. Who wouldnt? 75 and sunny all the time, hot women, great scenery, it was nice! But the cost of living there was INSANE! I mean, I can get CA produce signifigantly cheaper at a store in TX/TN/KY ect than I can at any CA grocery store. That and for the same price as a million dollar shoe box in CA you could literaly build a 12,000 sq foot mansion in a number of other states. Or better yet a really nice house for 1/5th the price and use the extra money you save to go do cool things. So what gives? Do californians just like the nice weather/scenery enough to pay the mega over priced/uber inflated cost of CA living?

yep , unless u want to live in a crap hole its rather expensive.

Yeah but, can you get a job outside CA thats going to let you afford that mansion? We westcoasters are paid more because our cost of living is higher than the rest of the US. Wanna hear something that makes no sense? The oil refineries are here in CA yet, gas is 50 to 75 cents more expensive here and, we don't have to truck it out of state? Go figure.

yeah cali is not cheap, but you do earn more. i worked for an international company a few years back. we had some folks transfer offices to texas, and that required a $15k+ decrease in salary because of the cost of living differences.

even though with the higher salaries, i still feel like im living in poverty though :wall: they will screw you through every orifice available in this damn state

75 degrees in the middle of winter, we had days last month over 90 degrees, I wiil never leave, you just can't beat the weather, the traffic on the other hand could go but thats the down side for us that commute. Check the weather in the mid west or east coast this time of year it is worth it to live here, those long cold winters take a toll on you, especially as you get old.

I understand you guys get paid more (deppending on job) but it isnt that big of a diff. My brother lives in Mira Mesa and he paid like 800k for a 4 bed 3 bath house with a yard smaller than my 90gal  . Same house in Austin TX cost like 140-160k and you get a yard big enough for somthing other than a chihuahua. I agree about the crappy weather of the north though, my knees couldnt take the cold climate of the midwest (thus living in the south). Diffrent strokes I suppose! :headbang2

yeah, real estate is ridiculous. no amount of cost of living adjustment can make up for the differences we pay here as opposed to the rest of the country. home prices are not in-line with income of the people that live here. thats why all those foreclosures happened. prices have dropped, but they still have a lot to go before they stabilize with wages earned

yea, but who wants a 12k sq foot house in the middle of nowhere, nebraska?
