So my 13in tegu has been hibernating for the past 3 months and I'm trying to plan out his big enclosure. He's currently in a 40B. So I have some questions about my planning that I hope wil be okay asking here.
Oh and the big cage will be 8x4x4 with 1ft of substrate.

1)The materials. I was thinking 3/4in plywood coated with some sort of water proofing ailment. Would I need the little support beams? I ask becaus I can't squeeze the cage into my room and I want as little pieces as possible.

2)The lighting. I was thinking a 100w halogen on the basking side and a powersun 100w in the middle. Is this good placement? What do you guys have in your cages? For those who don't know tegus like a basking spot of 100-110F.

Sorry the post is kinda long winded. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated

I would use the recycled plastic lumber so that you do not need to worry about water proofing instead of the plywood. It looks better and will last longer too. but it is a bit expensive. If you do go with the regular wood, I would just use some sort of out door wood sealer and again not worry about an epoxy lining since it is never going to be submerged. Thompsons wood sealer is reptile friendly... I used it to build a savanna cage once a while back and never had a problem.

As far as lighting goes, I would use a 150watt bulb to get it nice and hot, no need to bother with the halogen. Also, I would forgo the light in the middle, it just is not necessary and would create less of a gradient and give you tegu less temperatures to choose from.

Hope this helps!

So I should get the 150(might be 160) powersun instead. That's great considering thier the same price. Is powersun a good brand?

Thanks snakeguy101 you helped alot!

I am really not familiar with the powersun brand, I just use either exo terra bulbs or regular light bulbs from lowes or walmart depending on if they need UV or not.

Well thanks anyway I've heard very good things from them so that's what I will go for.
