I took a water sample to my LFS yesterday and had the calcium and alkalinity checked. They said my calcium was 500+ and the alkalinity was 15.7+, essentially off the charts. They said it wasn't bad because they were at least balanced, one wasn't high while the other is low.

Should I do anything?

test a fresh batch of newly mixed salt water and see what that is. Let it come down naturally and adjust your dosing regimen.

I'm not dosing the tank at all... the tank has been seup in my place for only 3 weeks, the guy I bought it from had it as a Fowlr. I only have a ver small frags so i have never dosed... i buy my water premixed from the lfs

had it retested again at a diff store. same results for alk and cal, they also mesaured mag and it was low. they thought it was very strange...

If I were you I'd start thinkin' about finding a different water source than the store bought pre-mix. Everything you've said in two different posts would lead me to believe the water your buying is old starting with the cloudy water scenario. I didn't think the Alk is 15.7 more like the dkh, you'd have to do the math for alk my best guess early in the morning 9-11 Alk.

Well I am moving in 2 weeks and getting my own RODI unit for thr new place. The odd thing is I used the same water source for my 30g and never had an issue

Well I'm curious to know if it might be from the original owner. The LFS I buy from uses Reef Crystals and since salinity is OK, I assume mineral content should be OK. I never tested calc, alk and mag when I got it cause I didn't have a test kit. All my fish seem to be unaffected and my LPS seem to be loving it. Kenya tree however has been crunched up for the last two days now though...

Assume nothing - Just because salinity is "okay" it really means nothing when it comes to ALK trace element content. The problem with 3rd party water sources either stores or other ppl you have no control over what is in it or what the parameters are - basically no control over the stability of your tank.

Well I move in a few weeks and will be putting a RODI unit in my new apartment and mixing my own salt, so hopefully that will help
