I’ve been in need of some inspiration in my near-future revamp of both my 75 and 125, so I decided to go to the California Academy of Science to check out the aquarium there. Figured I’d share some of their setups that I really enjoyed:

South East Asian display featuring barbs, danios and loaches. Heavily planted with crypts and Java fern.

South American display with Altums, Sterbai corydoras and a large Royal Pleco. A few small sword plants as well. I really liked the pieces of wood floating from the top.

South American display with Cardinal, rummynose and emperor tetra as well as a Discus pair. Planted with various swords.

Not sure of the geographic setup here. I believe it was stocked with lampeye killifish and some other stuff. What I really enjoyed here was the lighting. Having the back corners being significantly darker definitely added depth to the tank.

Side note: the massive South American pond is overrun with Severum right now lol. It looks like they have introduced a new species (maybe H.severus?) as well. There is always a decent population in the tank, but never even half as many as I saw today. It looks like the true Parrot cichlids are also successfully breeding a bit, but not nearly to the degree of the Severum. There are some adult Chocolates as well but I didn’t see a single juvenile.

I very much appreciate that you shared these pictures. They're excellent!
Might even take some aquascaping inspiration for my 2nd 473 liter from these pictures, hehe.....
