It is not because he stole doughnuts, it is because he is a serial criminal and needs to be removed from society. If you lead a life of crime, you have got to be willing to pay the price.
hope they were good donuts...at least krispy kreme quality
its not like his previous charges were only misdemors though, this was just the last straw...
saw a while back on tv another guy get his third strike on stealing a pack of batterys.

He really does need to be removed from society! I mean stealing donuts?!? Thats terrible!!!
The three strike rule is rediculous. Your crimes should be based on each situation, not your previous problems for which you have paid your debt to society.
Ex.
A defendant who accepted a plea bargain to 2 counts of residential burglary in one juvenile case 20 years before the passage of the law would have both counts regarded as first and second strikes, and would face a third strike if charged with any offense potentially chargeable as a felony, such as possession of a controlled substance or "felony petty theft."
So once someone does something stupid as a child, pays their debt to society, 20 years later the 3 strike law is passed. They go on with their life and become a successful business person, then and they get arrested for having a xanax or (insert drug here) their friend gives them to sleep on a plane trip. Life in jail?
